The IB Prep year NEW

11 March 2021

Many students and parents are interested in our prestigious IB programme, which is enriching and academically rigorous. In order for everyone to get the most out of the experience, we are introducing an optional IB preparation year. In this article, our IB Diploma Programme coordinator Tania McMahon tells us more about this new path:

Our IB preparation programme is designed to give students the solid academic foundation required to successfully embark upon the two-year IB diploma. This year-long course allows for the transition from their current curricular system or style of teaching and learning, to that of the International Baccalaureate.

As each learner is unique and has their own educational history, the programme is customised to meet the specific needs of the student. It includes a mixture of IB and non-IB courses, providing additional support in English, French, Mathematics and Science, as required. The aim of the programme is to provide students with a strong academic and linguistic basis, to enable them to access the full range of IB options offered at IIL when they join the IB Diploma programme one year later.

This programme is designed for students who:

  • require additional support in English, the language of instruction of most of our IB courses.
  • are enrolling at our school for Year 11 (Grade 10)
  • are transitioning from a curriculum which is not entirely compatible with the academic disciplines or the educational style of the IB Diploma programme

At the end of the IB prep year, our students will be guided to select IB options that highlight their strengths. Depending on their language profile and desired university destinations, they will prepare for one of the following:

  • the IB Diploma
  • the Bilingual IB Diploma (English/French or English/mother-tongue)
  • the Advanced Bilingual IB Diploma (French/English)

Thanks to their excellent IB Diploma results, our graduates are accepted into some of the world’s most prestigious universities.
