Time for Math challenge!

16 January 2018

At the IIL, 31 students in the English Primary Section have taken part in the Primary Mathematics Challenge (PMC). The PMC is a fun and exciting event aimed at pupils in Years 5 and 6 to stretch their problem-solving skills and to test their ability to think things through logically.

All across the UK and other leading British International Schools, students were given 45 minutes to answer 25 questions that stretched the curriculum far beyond formal mathematical knowledge and to test the foundations of reasoning skills.

At the Institut International de Lancy, we promote the importance of Problem Solving as a means of helping pupils develop their reasoning skills and ability to “think outside the box.” The PMC was another opportunity that our school offered to encourage enthusiasm, and boost confidence in mathematics.

“The questions were challenging, but I found myself asking my teachers more questions about Maths because of the test.” – Marco, Year 6.

Top scores were submitted from the challenge results.  Our school is now excited about  competing in the PMC Bonus Round coming up in February 2018!
