Rhetoric competition

13 June 2023

Every year, the Institut International de Lancy takes part in the rhetoric competition organised by the French schools in Central and Eastern Europe (AEFE).

For the second year in a row, the Institut International de Lancy welcomed 8 schools from different European countries to the grand final.

A total of 50 students gave their speeches in the Institut’s auditorium, before a jury made up of pedagogues, professionals and, for the first time, students or former students.

The speeches, which lasted 3, 4 and 6 minutes respectively for the 7èmes, 4èmes and Secondes, were judged according to three criteria:

    1. Speech delivery (quality, articulation, expression)

    2. Quality of the relationship established with the audience (emotion provoked, interaction with the audience, etc.)

    3. Quality of the content and expression of the speech (vocabulary, structure, arguments, quotes, etc.).

The topics chosen by the students were particularly varied, ranging from artificial intelligence to happiness, bereavement and even more surprising subjects such as squirrels and sleep.

At the end of this high-quality final, three IIL students stood out:

* Eloi Martin-Ionesco – 1st prize in the Secondes category

* Cassandre Langel – 2nd prize in the 7èmes category

* Thea Sartorius – 3rd prize, in the 7èmes category

These results are the fruit of the efforts of all our students, their teachers and the whole team involved.

Well done to them all!
