Euro 2016 qualifying round

1 March 2016

Scouted for the Irish Women’s U 17 football team at just 13 years old, IIL IB student Leah Reybet-Degat has recently returned from a victorious Euro 2016 qualifying round in Turkey.  Playing in midfield, Leah helped secure the team’s victory with her goal against Andorra.

Leah has always enjoyed football, and has played for school teams and local clubs in Vietnam, France, Ireland and Switzerland.  Four years ago, she was invited by the Irish team selectors to participate in a training camp and play in two friendlies against England; she impressed the team’s coaches, securing her regular spot in the squad.

In the short term, she is hoping that her team will win the next group stage of Euro 2016, taking place this March in France, and that they will have the chance to play in the finals.  She has long term ambitions of joining the Irish senior squad, and hopes that one day women’s football will be as well-recognised as the men’s game.

IIL wishes Leah, a popular and hard-working student, the best of luck in her upcoming matches and her future aspirations.
