120 years of stories at the Institut International de Lancy 1903-2023

June 16, 2023

Founded in 1903 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph as the Marie-Thérèse boarding school, the Institut International de Lancy (IIL) is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year. The former Catholic boarding school for girls has now become a leading international school with over 1,500 students. Renowned for its academic excellence, IIL welcomes children from early years to high school, in its French, English and bilingual programmes, on its campus in Geneva.

Encouraging both academic success and personal development, the Institut International de Lancy has been supporting students in the creation of their own story for 120 years. Whether through the arts, sport or science and technology with its STEAM laboratory, IIL has made children’s development its priority. To celebrate this anniversary, IIL unveiled a new advertising campaign that pays tribute to all the stories written with its students since 1903. An anniversary logo recalling the school’s founding date has also been created.

Since its foundation, IIL has constantly expanded its campus to accommodate the ever-growing number of students and to offer each child the opportunity to flourish thanks to innovative, state-of-the-art facilities. After an initial extension in 2010 and again in 2017, IIL laid the foundation stone for its fourth building this year. Designed to provide students with a most comfortable and adSince its foundation, IIL has continually expanded its campus to provide the ever-increasing number of students with innovative and state-of-the-art facilities and the resources to fulfil their potential. After a first extension in 2010 and then in 2017, IIL laid the first stone of its fourth building this year. Entirely dedicated to the well-being of our students, the building will be completed in 2024 and will include sports facilities, a learning centre, and a large examination room. These spaces will encourage innovative projects in a less academic setting and allow for an even greater combination of learning and personal development.

“I am honoured to celebrate this anniversary with our students and all our staff. It is a milestone of which we should be proud. It proves that IIL has successfully grown over the years and evolved to meet the continuous changes in our world and society. More than a school, IIL is a community in which children can flourish, learn, develop their intellectual curiosity, and thrive in the values of respect and tolerance that are at the heart of our school. “Work and succeed together” is the motto that drives our educational community and accompanies our students as they write their own story”, declares Monique Roiné, General Director of the Institut International de Lancy.
