Sports & Creativity

Discover Sports & Creativity an option offered in secondary school to extend the Sport Passion Nature experience. Interview with Arnaud Denis, Head of Sports at IIL, on this subject.
Can you briefly present the new creative and sports option offered to first-year secondary students this year?

Starting from the 2025–2026 academic year, first-year secondary students will be able to choose the Sports & Creativity option. This programme gives them three PE periods every Monday afternoon instead of two, allowing them to flourish through a unique combination of sports and artistic activities.

What types of activities will be offered to the students?

Each term, students will choose one activity from a varied selection: gymnastics, hip-hop dance, football, mountain biking, parkour, climbing, fitness, and a nutrition and cooking workshop.

Where will the activities take place?

During winter, most activities will be held in IIL’s new B25 building, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities:

  • a dance studio with high-quality sound equipment,
  • a modern, fully equipped fitness room,
  • a unique interactive climbing wall, specially designed for IIL.

The nutrition and cooking workshop will be held in a dedicated area of the new school cafeteria, fitted out as a professional kitchen.

Who will supervise this option? Teachers, external instructors, artists?

Most activities will be led by our specialised teachers, each in their own field of expertise. The hip-hop dance course will be taught by a professional dancer, also a teacher at Dance Area—a renowned dance school in Geneva—ensuring students benefit from high-level artistic instruction.

How many hours per week are devoted to this option?

The option includes 3 periods per week, totalling 2 hours and 15 minutes.

What motivated the school to create this option?

This initiative stems from the success of the Sport Passion Nature option in primary school. Students and families expressed the wish to extend this experience into secondary school. We therefore designed a more innovative and diverse programme that combines creativity, physical activity, and well-being.

What are the main goals of the programme?

The programme aims to help each student develop personally and find a balance between academic work and leisure. It is also an opportunity to discover new forms of expression, both sporting and artistic.

What kinds of skills will students develop?

By taking part in these activities, students will strengthen not only their sporting and artistic skills, but also personal and social competences such as self-confidence, initiative, cooperation, respect for rules, and team spirit.

How can this option help students get to know themselves better and build self-confidence?

The diversity of activities encourages students to explore different fields, sometimes new to them, and to step out of their comfort zone. Whether succeeding in sports challenges, creating a choreography, or preparing a healthy meal, they discover their strengths, learn to manage their emotions, and build confidence. This experience helps reinforce their belief in their abilities, both personally and academically.

Finally, what message would you like to share with families who are still hesitating about enrolling their child?

More than just a sports activity, this programme is a complete, enriching, and formative experience. It offers each student a privileged environment in which to flourish, reveal their talents, and acquire new skills, preparing them to face the challenges of tomorrow with confidence.
