The new B25 building at the Institut International de Lancy, inaugurated last October, has sparked curiosity for both its architectural and educational design.

Built entirely underground, this discreet extension of the Institut International de Lancy reveals itself from within. Covering over 1,600 m², this new building was designed in partnership with GD Atelier d’Architecture, IIL’s teaching teams, and experts in educational space design. The construction was carried out by PILLET S.A. Resolutely innovative, the building contains no traditional classrooms but offers numerous spaces that foster collaboration and creativity.

On the first level, the various spaces are organised around a generous landscaped patio that encourages calm, introspection, and concentration. A large learning center with contemporary furniture provides small meeting rooms ideal for group work, as well as relaxation zones for quiet reading. A teacher-librarian welcomes students and curates a monthly selection of books. A media room, equipped like a professional television studio and dedicated to film education, allows students in the cinema-audiovisual programme to fully unleash their creativity. It includes all the equipment necessary for professional film production: dolly rails for smooth and precise camera movements, professional lighting systems for scene illumination, a green screen for visual effects and post-production, and an audio mixing console for recording and balancing soundtracks.

“This innovative building reflects our commitment to providing students with an inspiring learning environment that encourages creativity, excellence, and personal growth,” .
Monique Roiné, Director General of the Institut International de Lancy

Large rooms specifically designed for examinations are also located on this level, providing optimal conditions for students to sit their exams. The choice of materials and color palette contributes to a serene and focused atmosphere.

Partly situated under the patio, the second level is dedicated to sports. Flooded with natural light from a large glass roof, a state-of-the-art fitness room features, at one end, a colourful and interactive climbing wall, specially designed for IIL, and suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced climbers. The layout was carefully planned to ensure smooth circulation and comfort, with impact-absorbing surfaces creating a motivating environment conducive to athletic performance. A dance studio with high-end sound equipment completes this level.

Outdoors, a multi-sport court, landscaped areas, and relaxation spaces provide calm and tranquillity for their users.

The result of thoughtful reflection on the school of tomorrow, the B25 building offers a learning environment aligned with 21st-century educational challenges and demonstrates IIL’s ability to combine tradition and innovation for more than 120 years.

The new B25 building at the Institut International de Lancy, inaugurated last October, has sparked curiosity for both its architectural and educational design.
