The origins of the Institut International de Lancy date back to 1903, when the sisters of the Congregation of Saint-Joseph de Bourg founded the school having been forced to close down the one they were running at the time in Ferney-Voltaire.

1903 : Foundation of Pensionnat Marie-Thérèse by the sisters of the Congrégation de Saint Joseph de Lyon

1927 : Opening of the Baccalauréat français section

1958 : Inauguration of the Claire-Joie building

1990 : Ill became a bilingual school. Teaching of English at nursery and primary levels in the French section; "O Level" preparation for anglophones

1994 : Boys and girls mixed in all classes

1998 : First secular leadership

2000 : Creation of the Parents' association (APEIIL)

2001 : Opening of the English primary section

2005 : Development of the facilities - inauguration of the New Building (first part)

2005 : Opening of the English secondary section

2009 : Authorization to teach the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

2009 : QSC (Quality School Certificate) accreditation

2010 : Inauguration of the New Building (second part)

2011 : Restoration of Marie-Thérèse building

2011-2012: IIL becomes the first 1to1 school in Switzerland

2012 : co-host of Apple Education Leadership Conference

2013 : first students accepted at Oxford and Cambridge

2014 : first student with more that 20 out of 20 in the French baccalaureate, first student with 45 points in the IBDP.
