Inspiring summer plans

8 March 2018

This summer, two of our students will participate in the CISV Youth Meeting in Turkey. CISV is global organisation dedicated to innovative, fun and non-formal peace education. We hope that their story will inspire other students to try life changing experiences during the summer.Who are you?

We are Olivia and Salma. Both of us are thirteen years old and in year eight in the English section of IIL.

What is your summer project?

This year, we will be going to a CISV camp in Turkey where we hope to make many new friends from around the world.

How did you learn about this?

O: I learnt and became interested in CISV through my father, who went to his first CISV camp at the age of eleven. When I turned eleven myself, I followed in his footsteps and went on my first camp. The four weeks that I spent in Kiel, Germany were life changing, it was an unforgettable, indescribable and magical month with some of the nicest people I have ever met.

S: I heard about CISV from Olivia who, as she said, learnt about it from her father.

How did you first become interested in this issue?

O: I have always enjoyed meeting new people, learning about different cultures and travelling.

S: I became interested in 2015 when Olivia mentioned the camp and gladly accepted when we were invited to Germany for our first Village.

How would you like to address this issue in the future?

O: CISV has allowed me to see the world through different eyes. In the future, I would like to use the knowledge that I acquired about different cultures through CISV in my everyday life.

S: When I turn 17, I would like to be a Junior Counselor and when I turn 21 a Leader who travels with children around the world.
