Career Advice for students

Back
IIL fosters reflection on future academic and professional paths and students follow a specialised programme from the time they first enter secondary level at the age of 11. Our international school aims to help students, and their parents, to determine the curriculum best suited to their strengths and interests, be this at IIL or elsewhere.

A wide ranging educational programme

Students have a choice of four possible tracks :

They can opt to study for either the French or the International baccalaureate regardless of which french and english cursus they have been in prior to joining the programme.

A complete orientation process

Career guidance is based on three perspectives:

  • the student: personal development, interests and skills

  • the school: knowledge and understanding of the demands of each diploma

  • the parents: coordination of information and decision-making

Activities to raise awareness regarding career options are organised as part of the regular programme which spans over several years, the primary objective being to help students determine their personal interests and strengths. Once these have been established, students can build on the study options and skills required for their chosen career path. Methods include role-play, specialised internet platforms such as Real Game and Fast Tomato, with time being set aside for them to focus on their personal development.

In addition to classwork, the Institut International de Lancy organises parents' information evenings to clarify student options, whether they are to continue their education at IIL or elsewhere. Parents are provided with details of the necessary requirements for entry into the Swiss state system.

Admission to the Swiss public education system is based on criteria established by the DIP (Department of Education) in conjunction with the AGEP (Geneva Association of Private Schools). IIL students can enter the state system at any time, though English section students are required to sit a entrance examination. French cursus students on the other hand, are automatically eligible for Swiss education system entry, provided they meet the predetermined criteria.
