In the Upper Secondary school, we are committed to providing an environment where students can flourish academically, socially and emotionally. Our supportive learning environment gives pupils the possibility to achieve their full potential. All students follow the recognised and academically challenging International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). This holistic curriculum is excellent preparation for higher education and beyond. We carefully guide students and parents through the selection of subject options, which are informed by each individual’s strengths and their career or university aspirations. Our record for successful completion of the IB Diploma has resulted in impressive university acceptances.

Our commitment to teaching values is reflected in our nurturing, caring approach and strong emphasis on pastoral care. Each student is assigned a personal tutor, responsible for monitoring their academic progress and emotional well-being. A university guidance counsellor provides valuable advice to support the tertiary education application process. Our team of dedicated, subject specialists enable students to acquire solid content knowledge and skills, whilst encouraging the development of learner autonomy.

We cultivate open-minded attitudes and the habit of reflection, as well as principled, ethical behaviour in every student. Our teachers, who are as internationally diverse as their pupils, model intercultural understanding. The strong relationships we forge together are the foundations of our school community, which is dedicated to working together to best prepare our students for their futures.

IBDP - International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Students of over 30 nationalities follow the IBDP, a reflection of the international identity of the School. The programme is taught in English and students can chose to study French as a first language.

The IB Diploma is a widely recognised qualification, valued by universities around the world. The Institut International de Lancy’s record of successful university placements includes leading institutions such as Cambridge, Oxford, King's College (London), McGill (Montreal), Trinity College (Dublin).

Our internatinale school has been authorised to teach IBDP since 2009. Since then, it has constantly upgraded its quality standards, based on the recommendations issued by the International Baccalaureate Organisation’s quality monitoring.

Teaching and learning

The IB Learner Profile lies at the heart of the Diploma Programme. It is made up of ten attributes that students strive to become:

  • Inquirers

  • Knowledgeable

  • Thinkers

  • Communicators

  • Principled

  • Open-minded

  • Caring

  • Risk-takers

  • Balanced

  • Reflective

The learner profile is fostered in all parts of the curriculum. The core of the Diploma Programme aims at developing attitudes and skills that are the heart of 21st century skills, namely :

  • initiation to research through an Extended Essay project that applies scientific methodology

  • understanding of the nature of learning through a Theory of Knowledge course

  • holistic approach to education thanks to a Creativity - Action - Service programme

The six subject groups allow students to explore all areas of knowledge :

  • Language and Literature

  • Language acquisition

  • Individuals and societies

  • Sciences

  • Mathematics

  • The Arts

Various subjects and different levels provide the opportunity of tailoring the curriculum according to the students’ profile and long term academic goals. The choice of subjects available is updated on a yearly basis. The IIL IB Handbook provides extensive information on the subjects offered.

IB Examinations

IB assessment consists of internally and externally examined components. Internal assessments in all subjects are scheduled over the two years of the programme, whereas most of the external assessments take place during the examination period in May.

Successful completion of IB examinations assures the award of a world-recognised diploma and represents an asset for university placement.
