I would like to wish you a warm welcome to the English Primary Section of Institut International de Lancy.

Our section is a happy and inviting place, where children begin to develop curious minds and an extensive repertoire of learning skills in a nurturing environment.  Catholic values underpin our ethos; we pride ourselves on being an inclusive primary school that welcomes children of all faiths and cultures. Please take the time to browse through our website to get a feel for the sense of purpose, achievement and contentment we instil in our children.

We closely follow the UK’s National Curriculum; our children’s exemplary learning behaviour and our dedicated team of teaching staff inspire a love of learning throughout our section, something that is frequently commented on by visitors and parents, and that defines our unique ethos.

We strive to nurture the development of the whole child, equipping our children with the confidence and skills they need to excel throughout their education. To achieve this, our teachers place children’s well-being at the core of everything they do, whilst integrating advanced technologies and innovative UK programmes into teaching and learning.

Our children begin learning French language from Reception. Intimate groups led by specialist French teachers ensure our children develop a level of proficiency.

I invite you to visit our section so that you can experience first-hand our children and staff working together in a courteous and purposeful way. This harmony continues throughout IIL, as our children collaborate with their peers from other sections on a range of projects, mirroring IIL’s mission: to work and succeed together.

I look forward to welcoming you to our section.

Victoria Power, Head of the English Primary Section

Key Stage 2 : Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6

Our programme is taught in English; we closely follow the UK’s National Curriculum, offering a creative and comprehensive curriculum complemented by the use of technology. All core subjects i.e. English, Maths, Science and Topic are taught by class teachers in English. Specialist subjects are taught through French. Please visit our Parent Handbook to further explore our curriculum developments and French language initiatives.

Additionally, pupils attend French language classes four times a week, grouped by stage of development, beginning in Reception. Teachers’ commitment to collaborative teaching across our section enables children to explore and use French in other areas of the curriculum, further enabling our children to attain a high degree of linguistic ability. All our children will have the opportunity to take the DELF Prim examinations in Year 4 and Year 6.

The primary level is made of two cycles :

- Key Stage 1 welcomes pupils of age 5 to 7

- Key Stage 2 welcomes pupils of age 7 to 11

National Curriculum of England

Key Stages 1 and 2 foster independence and high levels of academic achievement. Our children have high personal aspirations  due to our teachers’ outstanding commitment to education and pastoral care. Consequently, children develop the confidence to investigate and enquire, to solve problems and to take responsibility for their own learning. The teaching aims to enrich their learning experiences, broadening their social horizons and their cultural interests. Our comprehensive provision enables children to develop a work ethic that stands them in great stead for their future lives.

We pride ourselves on having an excellent rapport with our children which ensures their confidence, happiness and security in our international  school. We want our pupils to be tolerant of each other, respectful of adults, but above all, safe and secure.

Our creative curriculum is enhanced with innovative UK software programmes. Our teachers and subject leaders closely monitor teaching and learning across subjects and year groups to ensure our provision is of the highest standard. Each teacher continually monitors the attainment of each child to ensure teaching is accurately targeting each child’s stage of development and each child is making progress. We assess our children against the objectives of the UK’s national curriculum. Our assessment cycle consists of continual formative and summative assessments, the results of which are communicated to parents in reports produced twice yearly.

The Institut International de Lancy are a non-selective school regarding academic ability, yet our results are well above the UK’s national average. However, we do require children from KS1 to have previously studied in English.

Please visit our Parent Handbook, which is available to download from the English Primary pages of IIL’s website.
